The figure is enclosed within a linear square border that frames the design. The ethnic legend ΘΑΣΙΟΝ is disposed around the field outside or within the square border, identifying the issuing city of Thasos. A pomegranate appears to the right of the figure as a subsidiary symbol. The reverse composition follows the established Thasian iconographic tradition linking the city's divine patron Dionysus on the obverse with the heroic archetype Herakles on the reverse. |
