| Obverse description | Quadriga driven rapidly to the right by a charioteer depicted in profile, holding the kentron (goad) in his extended right hand and gathering the reins in his left; above, Nike advances left in flight, her outstretched hands placing a victory wreath upon the charioteer's head. The composition is rendered in a vigorous, late-Archaic to early-Classical style characteristic of Sicilian coinage of the period. The legend ΚΑΤΑΝΑΙΩΝ arcs around the design within the coin's field. |
