Maroneia, the Thracian coastal city between the Nestos and Hebros rivers, was among the earliest Greek colonial mints to strike silver on the Thracian standard, drawing on access to the silver-rich hinterland that also supplied the better-known Thasian issues. The Schönert-Geiss corpus remains the definitive reference for Maroneian coinage, and specimens attributed to this early phase — before the city's types became more standardized in the mid-fifth century — turn up infrequently in the trade.
