Reverse description The hero Thessalos depicted in full figure, standing to the right with his left foot raised, actively restraining a bridled horse that moves dynamically to the right. The hero wears a broad-brimmed petasos and a chlamys (short military cloak) draped over his shoulders, conveying vigorous, heroic energy. The scene is rendered with considerable skill, the musculature of both figure and horse suggested within the constraints of the hammered flan. The ethnic inscription ΛΑ Ρ ΙΣΑ appears in the field, identifying the issuing city. The composition is typical of Larissaean coinage of the early fourth century BC, reflecting the city's civic pride in its mythological heritage.
