Reverse description Upright anchor in shallow incuse square, with a crayfish (astacus) depicted to the right of the anchor shank and the Greek letter alpha (A), abbreviating the city name Apollonia, positioned to the left. The anchor flukes are spread symmetrically at the base, and the crossbar is clearly articulated at the top. The entire design is lightly incused into the reverse field, a hallmark of early coinage from Apollonia Pontika.
