Obverse description Facing left, the bearded head of Dionysos is rendered in fine archaic-to-classical style, his flowing locks swept back and secured with a wreath of ivy leaves and berries. The facial features are boldly modelled in high relief, with a strong brow, prominent nose, and full beard rendered with naturalistic detail characteristic of Thasian die-engraving of the early fourth century BC. The field is plain, with no legend or additional devices.
