Reverse description A wheel of four spokes radiates from a central boss or pellet, dividing the field into four quadrants, each containing one letter of the civic ethnic ΚΑΛΧ in archaic Greek characters. The whole device is enclosed within a raised circular border, itself surrounded by a granulated or rope-pattern outer rim. The composition is characteristic of the incuse wheel type employed by Kalchedon during the late Classical period, serving as an unambiguous civic identifier on the reverse.
