| Obverse description | A Delphi-style sacrificial tripod rendered in fine relief, depicted facing, with a rounded cauldron surmounted by two ring handles at the summit; the three legs, articulated with vertical striations, terminate in lion-paw feet. A heron stands to the left of the tripod, its head turned to the right in profile. The retrograde ethnic legend ϘΡO appears in the field, identifying the issuing city of Kroton. The composition is characteristic of the early Achaean incuse coinage tradition, displaying accomplished archaic engraving. |
