Obverse description Two silphium seed-pods arranged base-to-base in the field, with a central pellet at their junction; a leaf extends to the left and another to the right of the paired fruits. The design is rendered in archaic relief with characteristic bold simplicity, the silphium plant being the emblematic symbol of Kyrene and its prized export commodity. The composition is compact and heraldic, filling the flan effectively within the roughly square incuse border visible on the flan.
