Obverse description Within a recessed square incuse field, a griffin passant to the right, depicted with spread wings, lion body, and a human or eagle head wearing a Persian-style crown or headdress. The creature is rendered in archaic relief showing strong Achaemenid artistic influence. A dotted border frames the inner square field. The style reflects the hybrid Greek-Persian iconographic tradition prevalent in fifth and fourth century BC Philistian coinage.
