Maroneia, a Thracian coastal colony with deep ties to the wine trade, issued coinage whose types and weight standards shifted considerably across the fifth century as the city navigated relationships with Athens, Persia, and the Odrysian kingdom pressing from the interior. This piece falls within the lighter end of the Thracian-Aegean weight tradition rather than the Attic standard, a deliberate choice reflecting regional commercial networks rather than Athenian influence.
