Obverse description Veiled and wreathed head of Demeter facing right, her hair arranged in loose curls beneath a grain wreath, rendered in a fine Sicilian Greek style characteristic of the mid-4th century BC. The goddess is depicted with naturalistic facial features and delicate drapery at the neck. The Greek legend ΔΗΜΗΤΗΡ appears in the field, identifying the deity. The flan is irregular and slightly convex, consistent with hand-hammered bronze coinage of this period.
