Obverse description Sphinx seated to the left in the field, depicted in high relief with wings folded against the body and tail curling downward. To the left of the sphinx, a stylized bunch of grapes hangs above a narrow-necked amphora, both rendered in compact archaic style. The design is contained within the irregular flan with no border or legend, characteristic of early Chian silver coinage. The overall composition reflects the island's emblematic use of the sphinx as its civic type.

Reverse description Quadripartite incuse square divided by a raised cross into four recessed quadrants, each filled with a granulated or pellet-textured surface. The incuse is deeply struck and well-centered on the flan, exhibiting the mill-sail pattern typical of early Greek hammered silver coinage. No legend or additional devices are present. This reverse type is consistent with the archaic monetary tradition of the Eastern Aegean.
