Obverse description Bearded head of Herakles facing right, enveloped in the scalp of the Nemean lion, the mane rendered in flowing strands framing the face. The hero's rugged, heavily modelled features display a broad brow, deep-set eye, and prominent beard, executed in a bold archaic-to-early-classical style characteristic of Euboian civic coinage. The lion's upper jaw is visible atop the head, its pelt draping naturally around the neck into the field.

Reverse description A bull recumbent to the left, its forelegs folded beneath its body and its head turned slightly upward, rendered with careful attention to musculature and naturalistic detail. The animal's horns are prominently curved and the tail curls along the hindquarters. The ethnic abbreviation ΚΑΡ appears in the upper right field in incuse Greek characters, identifying the issuing city of Carystus in Euboea. The composition fills the flan efficiently, with the bull occupying the lower two-thirds of the reverse field.
