Obverse description Forepart of a hippocamp advancing to right, rendered in archaic style with scaled equine body and swept wings; a scallop shell appears in the lower field beneath the creature. A retrograde ethnic letter is visible in the upper field, consistent with early Tarentine coinage convention. The design occupies the full flan with characteristic irregularity of the hammered technique.
