The silver drachms of uncertain Aquitanian tribes derive ultimately from Massalian prototypes, themselves copies of Rhodian issues, passed hand to hand through trade networks running up the Rhône corridor and west into Garonne country. Attribution remains contested precisely because no ancient source names the specific groups striking in this region during the third century BC, and die studies have yet to produce a coherent grouping tight enough to assign confidently to a single issuing authority.
