| Obverse description | Poseidon, the city's divine patron, depicted advancing to the right in a dynamic striding pose, nude save for a chlamys or drapery over his extended arm, wielding a trident held upright in his raised right hand. The figure is rendered in the robust, archaic-classical style characteristic of Poseidonian coinage of the mid-fifth century BC, with musculature and movement conveying divine authority.
