Beschrijving keerzijde Nike, the goddess of victory, advances to the right in a striding pose, her drapery rendered in flowing folds. She extends her right hand forward holding a wreath, while her left arm bears a long palm branch resting over her shoulder, a symbol of victory. A magistrate's name in Greek script appears to the right of the figure in the field. The entire design is enclosed within a distinctive meander (key-pattern) border, a hallmark of Prienean coinage of this period.

Aanvullende informatie

Priene was formally refounded around 350 BC on a new site further inland, resettled under Macedonian patronage — Alexander himself contributed funds to the temple of Athena Polias there, an act recorded in a surviving inscription now in the British Museum. Coinage followed once the city had established enough civic infrastructure to operate a mint. Regling 27 sits within the early post-refoundation sequence, placing this piece among the first generations of civic silver struck by a city that was, in every practical sense, newly built.
