正面描述 Forepart of a winged sphinx advancing to the right, rendered in archaic Greek style with finely engraved feathering on the outstretched wing and a leonine body. The creature's head is turned to face left, displaying a characteristic archaic visage with stylized facial features. The figure occupies the full field of the flan, with no surrounding legend or border, consistent with the small-denomination coinage of the Troad region during the late 5th century BC.

附加信息

Gergis was a minor settlement in the Troad, the region surrounding ancient Troy, and its coinage is remarkable chiefly for how little we know about the city itself — it barely registers in ancient literary sources. The type is attributed to the fifth century on stylistic grounds, placing it within the period of Athenian influence across the Aegean following the Persian Wars, when dozens of small Troadic communities struck silver in fractional denominations for purely local exchange.

SNG Copenhagen 354 remains one of the primary references for attribution, as the series has never attracted a dedicated monograph.
