| Obverse lettering | FRANCISCVS FRANCORVM REX F D |
| Reverse description | The reverse features a bold decorative cross pattée at the centre, with the royal crowned initial F (for Franciscus) appearing in each of the four quarters formed by the cross arms, each accompanied by a crowned salamander in the angles within the inner circle. The surrounding Latin legend SIT NOMEN DNI BENEDITVM F D — 'Blessed be the name of the Lord' — runs along the outer margin within a beaded border. The mint letter D for Lyon appears within the legend. The design is characteristic of the second type douzain issued under Francis I, struck by the hammered technique on a broad, irregular flan. |
