Obverse description Crowned quartered shield of arms occupying the central field, divided into four quarters displaying heraldic devices associated with the House of Nassau-Orange, including a lion passant and additional charges. The shield is surmounted by a royal crown. A circular Latin legend surrounds the central device, reading PH GVILL IIII D G PRINC AVRAIC, identifying Philip William as Prince of Orange by the grace of God. The overall execution is characteristic of late 16th-century hammered billon coinage from the Principality of Orange.
