Douzain of Dauphine - Francis I 7th type, without dolphin

The douzains of Francis I went through multiple successive types as royal monetary ordinances repeatedly adjusted the coin's fineness and weight — a cycle of debasement and partial reform that characterized much of his reign's fiscal management. This seventh type, lacking the dolphin that marked the Dauphiné regional issues, reflects the gradual standardization of provincial billon coinage under the crown. The Dauphiné had only formally integrated into the French royal domain in 1349, and its coinage retained distinct local markers for nearly two centuries before types like this one began erasing the distinction.
