| Beschrijving keerzijde | Central field displays a double cross fleurdelisée, with four fleurs-de-lis occupying the angles formed by the arms of the cross, a design derived from the traditional croix de France. The date appears in the upper portion of the legend. A circular Latin devotional inscription surrounds the entire motif, enclosed within a beaded inner circle. The hammered fabric is evident in the slightly uneven flan, consistent with late sixteenth-century French billon production. |

Henry IV struck these douzains during the most precarious years of his reign — the period before his 1593 abjuration of Protestantism, when Paris remained in Catholic League hands and his authority over the monetary system was contested territory. Mints loyal to him operated under siege conditions in some cases, and the resulting output was inconsistent enough that die varieties proliferate across the type. The Gadoury rarity rating reflects genuine scarcity, not collector fashion.
