Reverse description A bold floriated cross pattée occupies the center of the reverse field, with a lis-ended terminal at the foot, characteristic of the douzain type. In each of the four angles formed by the arms of the cross appears a crowned fleur-de-lis motif, rendered in the style of the Catholic League coinage. A beaded inner circle encloses the central design, while the devotional Latin legend SIT NOMEN DNI BENEDICTVM — 'Blessed be the name of the Lord' — runs continuously around the outer border. The mint mark and date appear within the legend, identifying the issuing mint and year of production. The hammered fabric shows typical irregularities consistent with late sixteenth-century French billon coinage.
