Obverse description Crowned fleur-de-lis shield of France centered within a double trilobe, flanked on either side by a crowned salamander in flames, the royal emblem of Francis I. The mint workshop letter appears at the base point of the shield, within the inner field. The entire composition is enclosed within an ornate double trilobe border. The surrounding legend reads in Latin uncial characters.
