Reverse description Central field bears a crowned royal shield of France semé of fleurs-de-lis, surmounted by the French royal crown, flanked on either side by the mint mark. The shield is depicted in the traditional French heraldic style of the period. A beaded inner border separates the central device from the circular Latin legend, which wraps around the full periphery of the coin and incorporates the date in the legend. The die workmanship reflects the hammered technique typical of provincial French mints of the late 16th century.
