Obverse description Quartered shield of France and Dauphiné, surmounted by a royal crown, occupying the central field. The upper quarters display the fleurs-de-lis of France, while the lower dexter quarter bears the dolphin of Dauphiné and the lower sinister quarter repeats the fleurs-de-lis. The shield is set within a plain inner circle, surrounded by the circular legend in Gothic-influenced Latin lettering. The coin exhibits the characteristic irregular flan of hammered coinage.
