Obverse description Within a trefoil-lobed inner border, three heraldic charges are arranged in a 2-1 formation: two fleurs-de-lis in the upper lobes and a dolphin naiant in the lower lobe, the latter serving as the heraldic emblem of the Dauphine province. The composition is enclosed within a beaded or pellet border. The surrounding circular legend, rendered in Gothic-influenced Latin capitals, reads FRANCISCVS FRANCO REX followed by the mint mark numeral 3 for Grenoble. The overall style is characteristic of late French medieval hammered billon coinage.
