Reverse description A long cross pattee divides the field into four quarters, each quarter containing a fleur-de-lis, forming a fleur-de-lis quatrefoil design around the cross. The entire motif is set within a beaded inner border. The surrounding Latin legend SIT NOMEN D BENEDICT encircles the design, with a small cross or pellet as a stop. The style and execution are consistent with French provincial hammered billon coinage of the reign of Francis I, struck at the Grenoble mint.
