A circular Latin legend encircles the design, separated from the central motif by a beaded inner border, reading DOVBLE. TOVRNOIS. with the date 1639, beginning with a cross pattee. The overall composition is characteristic of the Double Tournois type issued under Louis XIII, with the mint mark H for La Rochelle visible within the legend. |
