Obverse description Childish laureate bust of Louis XIII facing right, draped and cuirassed, with a small flat collar; the portrait reflects the youthful effigy characteristic of the early reign issues. The mint letter appears at 6 o'clock below the bust. The encircling legend reads in Latin, identifying the king as ruler of France and Navarre. The overall style is typical of early 17th-century French provincial coinage, with relatively crude workmanship consistent with hammered production at the Amiens mint.
