| Aanvullende informatie |
Stenay, a fortified town on the Meuse, sat inside the Duchy of Lorraine — technically a separate jurisdiction from France — but Louis XIII's forces occupied it militarily from 1632 onward following Duke Charles IV's repeated defections to the Habsburgs. Coins struck there under French authority during the 1630s occupy an ambiguous constitutional position: French royal issues produced on foreign soil under military occupation, not annexation.
The 4th type designation in this series reflects successive die modifications made across short production windows, a pattern driven by the copper supply disruptions that plagued French provincial mints throughout the Thirty Years' War.
