The surrounding circular legend reads in Latin within a beaded or plain border. The design is characteristic of the feudal coinage of Brittany, executed in the rough hammered style typical of mid-14th century French provincial mints. The ermine charges are emblematic of the ducal arms of Brittany. The overall flan is irregular, with weakly struck areas consistent with hand-struck billon coinage of the period. |
