| Reverse description | Central device features a plain cross with equal arms, enclosed within a beaded or linear inner circle, in the style of the double tournois type derived from Capetian royal coinage. The cross fills the inner field and extends nearly to the inner circle, dividing the field into four quadrants. The surrounding circular Latin legend reads MONETA BRITANIE, identifying the coin as currency of Brittany. Legend is separated by a stop or cross mark. The execution is characteristic of hammered billon production at the Breton ducal mints of Nantes, Rennes, and Vannes during the reign of John IV. |
