Reverse description Legend commences at 12 o'clock, introduced by a cross pattée, within a beaded or plain circle of 12 to 14 mm diameter. The reverse displays the denomination inscription flanked by the mint mark of La Rochelle — a pine cone (pomme de pin) — associated with mintmaster Pierre Bedeau (active 1584–1586), accompanied by a small bird in flight to the right serving as a privy mark. Two legend varieties are recorded: a standard spelling and a variant with a doubled 'R' in TOVRRNOIS.
