Beschrijving voorzijde Central field displays a plain cross pattee within a circle of pellets, with four annulets or lis ornaments positioned in the angles of the cross. The design is enclosed within a beaded inner circle, with a Latin legend running along the outer periphery. The overall composition is characteristic of the medieval tournois type, executed in the hammered tradition with typical irregular flan shaping.

Aanvullende informatie

The "double reverse legend" variety listed under Gadoury R1#195A is a known die anomaly of the Francis I double tournois series — the obverse legend was mistakenly engraved on the reverse die, producing a coin with legend text appearing on both faces where only one was intended. Such errors at the Paris and provincial mints were rarely caught before the dies entered production, and correction meant scrapping the die entirely. The R1 rarity rating confirms surviving examples are genuinely scarce, not merely underappreciated.
