| Obverse description | Central field displays the arms of France: three fleurs-de-lis arranged in orle (2 above, 1 below) within a plain inner circle, executed in the Gothic heraldic style typical of the Valois monarchy. The fleurs-de-lis are rendered in bold relief against a flat field. The surrounding circular legend in Latin characters reads partially around the rim. The flan is irregular and slightly clipped at the top, consistent with hammered coinage of the period. The overall design follows the traditional French royal arms as standardized under Francis I. |
