Double Tournois - Charles X Dijon mint

Charles X was the Catholic League's papal-backed claimant — an aging cardinal named Charles de Bourbon whom the League proclaimed king in 1589 after Henry III's assassination, while Henry of Navarre pressed his own legitimate succession. The Dijon mint struck coins in his name throughout the early 1590s despite his imprisonment by Henry IV, making him perhaps the only French king whose coins were produced while he sat in his captor's custody. He died in 1590, yet the League continued issuing coinage under his name for years afterward.
