Obverse description Draped and armored bust of William IX, Prince of Orange, facing right, rendered with flowing long hair in the mid-17th-century baroque manner, the shoulders clad in elaborately chased plate armor with visible pauldron and gorget detail. The effigy occupies the central field, truncated at the lower shoulder. A Latin legend runs along the inner border of the toothed rim, separated by pellets and punctuation marks.

Reverse description The quartered and impaled armorial achievement of the House of Nassau-Orange, surmounted by a large princely crown with elaborate foliate and jewelled decoration. The shield displays multiple heraldic quarters incorporating lions and other dynastic charges, enclosed within a plain escutcheon. A circular Latin legend incorporating the date 1649 surrounds the composition, separated by pellets and ornamental stops, within a toothed border.
