Obverse description Central shield bearing the imperial eagle of Aachen, displayed with spread wings, set within a beaded inner circle. The shield is framed by ornamental Gothic foliage or trefoil decorations at the cardinal points. A circular legend in Gothic uncial characters surrounds the design, reading within a double beaded border. The overall composition is characteristic of late 15th-century German municipal heraldic coinage, with the eagle serving as the principal armorial device of the Free Imperial City of Aachen.

Reverse description Crowned figure of the Madonna and Child kneeling to the left before the facade of Aachen Cathedral, with the enthroned figure of Charlemagne depicted to the right, rendered in the Gothic style typical of late 15th-century Rhenish coinage. The date 1492 appears in the lower exergual area in Gothic numerals. A circular legend in Gothic uncial script surrounds the entire composition within a beaded border, referencing Aachen as the royal seat and head of all cities. The deeply struck, high-relief figures display characteristic medieval iconographic conventions befitting the imperial and Marian symbolism of the city.
