Obverse description Bearded, pearl-diademed, draped and cuirassed bust of Julian II facing right, rendered with crisp high-relief portraiture characteristic of his reign. The emperor's effigy displays a short beard — a deliberate philosophical and religious statement — and a pearl diadem with a pendant behind the ear. The drapery over the cuirass is rendered in detailed folds, with a paludamentum fastened at the right shoulder. The encircling obverse legend reads D N FL CL IVLIANVS P F AVG, separated by a beaded border.
