The pearl diadem, a hallmark of late Roman imperial imagery, is prominently rendered across the brow. The emperor's distinctive full beard — a deliberate iconographic reference to his Hellenistic philosophical identity — is finely striated. The cuirass and paludamentum are visible at the shoulder, with the legend encircling the effigy within a beaded border. |

Julian minted heavily at Sirmium during his brief reign, partly because the city sat at a strategic junction of the Danube frontier and the road south toward Constantinople — a logistical reality that made it a natural supply point for his Persian campaign preparations. The SECVRITAS REI PVB type was a deliberate ideological statement from an emperor who had just emerged from civil war against Constantius II, projecting stability he was still actively establishing.
Julian died at the Battle of Samarra in June 363, less than two years into his sole reign, cutting production of this type short. RIC VIII 107 is among the more localized Sirmian issues of the series.
