Obverse description Draped bust of Philip IV facing right, depicted in contemporary regal attire with a ruffled collar, set within a beaded inner circle. The monarch's effigy is rendered in a style typical of Spanish Habsburg coinage of the mid-seventeenth century. The surrounding Latin legend reads + PHIL ° IIII ° D ° G ° HISPANIAR ° REX, identifying Philip IV as King of Spain by the grace of God. The flan is irregular and slightly uneven, characteristic of hammered production. The overall strike is moderate, with some weakness evident in portions of the legend.
