| Obverse description | Central field features an archiepiscopal crown rendered in relief within a plain inner circle, below which appear the abbreviated initials GAL / DS in two lines, identifying the issuer as Gaillard (de Saumate), Archbishop. The surrounding legend, separated from the inner circle by a beaded border, reads ARCHIEPISCOP(VS) GAL DS in Gothic Latin characters. The overall design is characteristic of southern French feudal billon coinage of the early fourteenth century, with a bold, slightly irregular strike typical of hand-hammered production. |

| Reverse description | Central field displays a floriated cross pattée with fleur-de-lis terminals at each arm, set within a plain inner circle; a small annulet or pellet occupies the center of the cross. The surrounding legend, separated by a beaded border, reads DEI GR(ATIA) AR(ELATENSIS) in Latin, invoking the divine grace of the see of Arles. The design conforms to the standard feudal double denier type of the Archbishopric, with the cross serving as both religious symbol and heraldic device. The strike is characteristically uneven, as expected of hammered billon coinage of this period. |
