Obverse description Crowned and draped bust of King James I facing right, wearing a crown adorned with fleurs-de-lis and crosses, with an elaborate lace ruff collar and richly ornamented mantle visible at the shoulder. The portrait is rendered in the robust hammered style characteristic of early Stuart coinage, with fine detail in the hair and facial features. The Latin legend IACOBVS D G MAG BRIT FRA ET HIB REX runs continuously around the periphery within a beaded inner circle, proclaiming James as King of Great Britain, France, and Ireland by the Grace of God.
