Obverse description Crowned and draped bust of King Charles I facing left, wearing a ruff collar and elaborately decorated mantle with an ornate lace collar beneath, the hair falling in loose curls to the shoulder. The crown is of the open imperial type with jewelled arches. The Roman numeral X appears in the field to the right of the bust, denoting the denomination of ten shillings. The effigy is set within a beaded inner circle, with the Latin legend CAROLVS • D • G • MAG • BRIT • FRAN • ET • HIB • REX X running clockwise around the periphery, interrupted by decorative stops.
