| 正面描述 | Draped bust of Pope Benedict XIV facing right, wearing the camauro and papal vestments. The effigy is rendered in high relief with fine detail to the facial features and drapery folds. The encircling Latin legend reads BEN·XIV PON·M·A·XV, denoting his pontifical name and regnal year. The legend is divided by the bust, with BEN·XIV to the left and PON·M·A·XV to the right. The field is smooth and the coin exhibits a milled edge border. |

Benedict XIV — Prospero Lambertini — was by most accounts the most intellectually serious pope of the eighteenth century, corresponding with Voltaire and reforming canon law with genuine scholarly rigor. His pontificate coincided with persistent fiscal strain on the papal treasury, partly a consequence of the War of Austrian Succession's disruption to northern Italian trade networks that fed revenues into Rome. The Doppio Giulio, worth two giulii, occupied an awkward middle denomination that saw heavier use in local Roman commerce than in international settlement.
Berman 2743 distinguishes this type across multiple die marriages; collectors working the series find attribution to specific years within the 1753–1757 window often depends on reverse die details rather than any legible date.
