The Marine Corps traces its founding to a resolution of the Second Continental Congress on November 10, 1775 — a date the Corps has observed as its official birthday ever since. Congress authorized this commemorative program specifically for the 250th anniversary year, with surcharges from sales directed to the Marine Corps Heritage Foundation, which funds museum and educational programs at Quantico.
