Obverse description Laureate and draped bust of King João V facing right, rendered in high relief in the Baroque style, with elaborately curled hair flowing to the neck. The king wears a laurel wreath and a lace-trimmed mantle. The circular Latin legend IOANNES.V.D.G.PORT.ET.ALG.REX runs along the periphery, interrupted by a beaded inner border. The mint mark (M for Vila Rica/Minas Gerais) and the date 1732 appear in the lower field beneath the truncation, flanked by small pellets.
