| Obverse description | Laureate and draped bust of King João V facing right, rendered in high relief in the Baroque style, with elaborately curled hair flowing to the neck. The king wears a laurel wreath and a lace-trimmed mantle. The circular Latin legend IOANNES.V.D.G.PORT.ET.ALG.REX runs along the periphery, interrupted by a beaded inner border. The mint mark (M for Vila Rica/Minas Gerais) and the date 1732 appear in the lower field beneath the truncation, flanked by small pellets. |

| Reverse description | The crowned Portuguese royal coat of arms, elaborately rendered in the Baroque manner, occupies the central field. The shield displays the five quinas (escutcheons bearing five bezants in saltire) in the central pale, surrounded by the bordure of seven castles representing the Kingdom of the Algarve. The arms are flanked by ornate acanthus-leaf and scroll mantling, with the whole surmounted by the royal crown. The reverse field is otherwise plain, with no peripheral legend, and the coin's milled edge is visible at the rim. |
